Bio

Barbara McCulloch's life has revolved around art. First working as an illustrator in Arizona and then moving back to her home state of Montana as she created a line of stoneware called Wildflower Pottery. Ten years of hiking and riding on horseback in the mountains inspired her to devote her art to painting. This love of color grew into a watercolor studio/gallery in Kalispell, from 1990 - 97. As her desire evolved to explore creativity, her media range grew through a period of impressionistic oil painting into her current work in the broad field of watermedia. Subjects most often are based on nature with color and texture as a key elements. A current two year series, Mindscapes, represents her expression of the western landscape. She resides in Fort Collins, Colorado and maintains a studio with the Poudre River Studio Artists dedicated to experimental work in watermedia.

Her past representational work in watercolor has won numerous awards and been included in the Montana Governor's Exhibit. She has shown extensively with the Western Heritage Artists with sales to all states and 14 foreign countries. She has juried the Western Spirit Art Show and lectured in professional development. Having taught watercolor for 20 years in art centers, as a college adjunct and plein-aire with Glacier Field Institute, she now teaches drawing, and both traditional as well as creative painting techniques. Her watercolor prints are carried through many western gift shops including Glacier and Rocky Mountain National Parks. Her recent original watermedia has gained local awards and is now represented by Poudre River Gallery in Fort Collins, Colorado and Framed Image Gallery in Moab, Utah.

Barbara enjoys hiking to prepare color studies, accompanied by her philosophy professor husband who writes as she sketches. When not painting, she enjoys yoga, literature, foreign films, vegetarian cooking and mentoring.
